Halal Marker ("we," "our," or "the service") is a community-powered app to help you find mosques near you with prayer times and amenities. This policy describes how we collect, use, and protect your information.
1. Information we collect
- Location data — With your permission, we use your device's location to show nearby mosques and prayer times. Location is used in the browser and not stored on our servers unless you choose to contribute mosque data linked to a place.
- Account information — If you sign in with Google or Twitter, we receive your email and display name from the provider. We use this to identify you as a contributor and to manage your account.
- Contributions — When you add or edit mosque information (e.g. iqamah times, amenities), we store that content and associate it with your account for attribution and moderation.
- Usage and analytics — We use a privacy-friendly analytics service (Datafa) to understand how the site is used (e.g. page views, general usage patterns). We do not sell your data to third parties.
2. How we use your information
We use the information above to provide and improve Halal Marker: showing nearby mosques, storing and displaying community contributions, keeping the service secure, and understanding usage so we can improve the product. We do not use your data for advertising or to build profiles for sale.
3. Data storage and security
Your data is stored on secure infrastructure (e.g. Neon Postgres, Vercel). We take reasonable steps to protect your information; however, no method of transmission or storage over the internet is 100% secure.
4. Third-party services
We rely on third parties to run the service: authentication (Google, Twitter via Better Auth), hosting (Vercel), database (Neon), and analytics (Datafa). Each has its own privacy practices. By using Halal Marker, you also agree to their applicable terms and policies where relevant.
5. Your rights
You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data by contacting us. You may also stop sharing location by revoking permission in your browser or device settings, and you can disconnect your account or stop using the service at any time.
6. Changes to this policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will post the updated version on this page and update the "Last updated" date. Continued use of Halal Marker after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
